The SAGC Flinders Node Re-Opening at the HMRB at Flinders Village.
It’s official, the SAGC has opened our Flinders Node at the beautiful new Health and Medical Research Building (HMRB) at Flinders Village, just up the hill (only slightly) from our previous location at Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer (FCIC).
We want to share the most heartfelt thank you to our FCIC colleagues for their support over the past 3 years. They have been instrumental in the successful launch and growth of the SAGC. We haven’t gone far…
The new SAGC space is located on Level 8 at HMRB at the Flinders University’s Bedford Park Campus. Conveniently, we are on the same floor as other technical services such as Flow Cytometry, Microscopy, and Cell Screen SA. Visit here for a full view of SA infrastructure.
Ben is now the Senior Genomics Research Coordinator for the Flinders Node of SAGC and is based at the new lab at HMRB.
He is a molecular biologist / bioinformatician, with diverse experience across biomedical, agriculture, and environmental sciences. Ben grew up in South Australia and recently relocated back from WA where he was working with CSIRO, researching genomic and epigenetic clocks – e.g., exploring biomarkers for life history traits in wildlife management such as lifespan and age.
We had a chance to quiz Ben on what he's most excited for in this new role and what his early impressions have been with the new set-up at HMRB:
"I’m most excited about being in a service role as it’ll give me the opportunity to hear about a broad range of projects and to develop the Flinders Node to have more automation to increase the throughput for larger scale projects."
SAGC Services at Flinders Node: We have big ambitions to grow our services at Flinders. At present, we have the following equipment and services. To stay informed about latest news from SAGC, please sign-up to our newsletter.
- QC services – prior to sending samples to SAHMRI Node
- Illumina Miseq – on site
- 10x Genomics Single Cell Services - on site
- Project Consultations and Pricing – available to meet in-person
"It’s fantastic to have the other technical facilities such as Flow Cytometry, Microscopy, Cell/Tissue culture facilities, and Cell Screen SA all on the one floor as it will give researchers the opportunity to have a one stop shop for all the wet lab requirements."
To drop off samples at the Flinders Node, please use the booking system available through this link and meet in the foyer on level 2 of HMRB.
If you have any other enquiries, please contact Ben directly or 8432 4791.
